One Week

We are just one week away from another visit to the most magical place on Earth!  Last year we surprised Kaci with the trip, but this year she knows it is coming and enjoys counting down the days until our departure.  I am ready for a vacation, Jim is ready for a vacation, and Kaci is just ready to swim and ride Peter Pan's Flight (that's what she says when we ask her what she's most excited about).  We upgraded hotels this year, which means we shortened our stay, but I feel so much more prepared this time since we already know places to eat, activities we like, etc.  Here's hoping the school week goes by quickly and our trip not so quickly!

The First Day of School

The first day of kindergarten went off without a hitch.  Kaci literally jumped out of bed with the biggest smile on her face proudly exclaiming that she was now a kindergartener.  Jim worked that day, but a great co-worker covered for him for a few hours so that he could help me walk Kaci to her classroom.

She wouldn't stop making silly faces!
All ready to go!
When we got to school, Kaci was beaming as the secretary, assistant principal, and principal all congratulated her on her first day of school.  She kept asking if it was time to go to her room and she grew even more anxious each time I told her that she would have to wait for the bell to ring.
She was finished with the idea of posing for pictures, she just wanted to go to class.

When she finally heard the bell, she was off and didn't even wait for Jim or I to walk with her.

"Kindergarteners can walk to class by themselves, mom," said the wee one.

And we finally made it to the room.  I kept my tears in check until I walked away since I had been told the night before that if I cried only daddy would be allowed to walk her to class.  I didn't want to leave her, though.

I'm very fortunate that I get to see her everyday and that I am right down the hall if she really needs me for something.  It still makes me sad though to know that my little girl isn't so little anymore.
